Job 36

(CLV) Job 36

1 Elihu continued and said: 2 "Compass about me a bit, and I shall disclose it all to you, For I still have declarations concerning Eloah. 3 I shall bear my knowledge from afar And ascribe righteousness to my Maker. 4 For truly my declarations are not false; One flawless in knowledge is with you. 5 Behold, El is abundant in vigor And does not reject the pure of heart. 6 He does not keep the wicked alive But gives the humble their due. 7 He does not diminish the guard of His eyes over the righteous, But with kings on the throne He seats them permanently, And they are elevated. 8 But if being bound with manacles, They are seized by the cord lines of humiliation, 9 Then He is telling them of their deeds And their transgressions, that they are making themselves arrogantly masterful. 10 Thus He reveals to their ears His disciplining authority, And demands that they turn back from lawlessness. 11 If they hearken and serve Him, They finish their days in good And their years in pleasures. 12 But if they do not hearken, They pass away by the javelin And expire without knowledge. 13 As for the polluted of heart who nourish anger, Who do not implore when He binds them, 14 Their soul dies in youth, And their life ends among cult-prostitutes. 15 He liberates the humble one by his humiliations And reveals truth to their ears by oppression. 16 Thus also He will allure you from the mouth of distress To a wide place without constraint, in its stead; And for rest at your table He will fill it with richness. 17 And with the adjudication of the wicked one you will be filled; Adjudication and judgment shall be upheld. 18 But beware lest one should allure you with affluence; Let not the vastness of the sheltering gift turn you aside. 19 Shall He arrange your thriving without distress And all exertions of vigor? 20 Do not gasp for the night When peoples ascend to their place. 21 Beware, you must not face about to lawlessness, For on account of this you have been tested by humiliation. 22 Behold, El is impregnable in His vigor; Who is a Director like Him? 23 Who checks out His way against Him? Or who says, You have contrived iniquity? 24 Remember that you should extol His deeds, Of which men have sung. 25 All humanity have perceived it; A mortal, he looks from afar. 26 Behold, El is so great we cannot know it, And the number of His years cannot be investigated. 27 For He condenses the drops of water That filter as rain for His mist, 28 That exude from the skies And drip down on humanity as showers. 29 Indeed, can one understand the spreading, thick clouds, The thunderous tumults from His booth? 30 Behold, He spreads His mist over it, And covers the roots of the sea. 31 For with them He gives sustenance to the peoples; He gives food in abundance. 32 He covers His palms with lightning And instructs it with sure aim. 33 His thunder tells about it, The cattle, also, about what is coming up."
