Amos 7

¹ Thus my Lord Yahweh shows me: And behold! He is forming the arching caterpillars, at the start of the coming up of the aftergrowth. And behold! the aftergrowth is after the mowings of the king. ² And it comes, when they finish devouring the herbage of the land, then I am saying, "My Lord Yahweh, pardon, pray; who shall raise Jacob, for he is small?" ³ Yahweh regrets over this. "It shall not come to be", says Yahweh. ⁴ Thus my Lord Yahweh shows me: And behold! my Lord Yahweh is calling to contend by fire. And it is devouring the vast submerged chaos, and it devours the portion of Yahweh. ⁵ And I am saying, "My Lord Yahweh, forbear, pray; who shall raise Jacob, for he is small?" ⁶ Yahweh regrets over this. "Moreover, it shall not come to be", says my Lord Yahweh. ⁷ Thus Yahweh shows me: And, behold! my Lord is stationed on a plumb-lined wall. And in His hand is a plumbline. ⁸ And Yahweh is saying to me, "What are you seeing Amos?" And I am saying, "A plumbline." And my Lord is saying to me, "Behold Me placing a plumbline within My people Israel; I will not continue to pass by them any longer. ⁹ And the fane heights of Isaac shall be desolated, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be deserted. And I rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword." ¹⁰ And Amaziah, priest of Bethel, is sending to Jeroboam, king of Israel, saying: "Amos conspires against you within the house of Israel. The land is not able to contain all his words. ¹¹ For thus says Amos, By the sword will Jeroboam die. And Israel will verily be deported off his ground." ¹² And Amaziah is saying to Amos, "Vision-seer, go! Run your way to the land of Judah, and there eat your bread, and there you shall prophesy. ¹³ Yet at Bethel you shall not continue to prophesy further, for the sanctuary of the king is it, and the house of the kingdom is it." ¹⁴ Yet Amos is answering and saying to Amaziah, "I am not a prophet, nor am I a son of a prophet. For I am a herder and a puncturer of sycamore figs." ¹⁵ And Yahweh is taking me from behind the flock, and Yahweh is saying to me, "Go, prophesy to My people Israel. ¹⁶ And now, hear the word of Yahweh, You are saying, You shall not prophesy against Israel, nor shall you drop a word against the house of Isaac. ¹⁷ Wherefore, thus says Yahweh, Your wife shall commit prostitution in the city, and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword, and your ground shall be apportioned by the line, and you shall die on unclean ground. And Israel shall verily be deported off his ground."
